WORLD CLASS OPEN LOGGERS SPORTS SHOW

2027 SUNDAY SHOW TICKETS ON SALE in may

The big leagues of loggers sports.

Where the best in the business go head-to-head – and where the bleachers are full for good reason.

The Sunday Open Show is the main event of the Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival. Expect high-impact action, world-class talent, and some of the most intense and entertaining competitions on the loggers sports circuit. This is where records are broken, reputations are earned, and cash prizes hit four figures.

The athletes competing on Sunday bring speed, strength, and surgical precision. It’s the pro-level spectacle that has made Squamish world-famous in the loggers sports community.

Two men compete in a lumberjack event, using a large handsaw to cut through a horizontal log while a crowd watches them outdoors on a sunny day. One man applies lubricant to the saw.

Familiar Names, Fierce Competition

You might spot past champions and crowd favourites like:

When the big names roll in, the crowds follow – and so does the prize money.

Don’t snooze! They sell out!

You haven’t truly experienced Squamish Days until you’ve had a Rotary beef bun. This sandwich is a 50+ year tradition and a festival staple – featuring smoked outside round roasts, sliced hot and piled onto a soft brioche bun. Add your favourite toppings and dig in.

These always sell out – and with a full-capacity crowd on Sunday, do line up early!

FEATURED EVENTS

These aren’t warm-ups. These are the real-deal, high-stakes competitions that make Squamish Days famous.

It’s not just about strength – it’s about precision under pressure. With a double-bit axe and a tight scoring zone, even seasoned pros miss their mark. This event is as satisfying to watch as it is tough to win.

One of the most iconic and difficult events in loggers sports. Competitors notch springboards into a standing pole, climb them, and chop through a log perched at the top – from both sides. It’s explosive, high-stakes, and thrilling from start to finish.

Armed with razor-sharp axes and unshakable rhythm, two competitors take turns swinging through a massive 20”+ cottonwood block. It’s a synchronized show of stamina, power, and pure will.

When a race lasts under five seconds, there’s no room for hesitation. These custom-built chainsaws roar to life and slice through thick logs with terrifying speed. The crowd always feels this one in their chest.

Balance meets brute force. Competitors run out to the end of a narrow angled pole, fire up their saw, and make a clean cut before racing back. Precision, footing, and fast saw work are the keys to taking this one home.

It’s a vertical sprint like no other. Athletes race to the top of an 80-foot spar pole, tap the bell, and descend at jaw-dropping speed. Blinking means you’ll miss half the race – and possibly the winner.

A test of both endurance and nerve. Climbers ascend to the top of a towering pole, then single buck through a suspended round. When that log hits the ground, so do the cheers.
Tall wooden poles are lined up vertically on a grassy field, each marked with a numbered sign. Trucks and a Woodfibre LNG banner are visible nearby, with trees and mountains in the background.

A timed event where accuracy is everything. Competitors race to bring down their tree – aiming to land it on a small marked peg. Power, strategy, and chainsaw mastery collide.

One saw, one log, and nowhere to hide. Competitors cut clean through a standing block with a traditional crosscut – solo, or in pairs where rhythm matters as much as power.

Two women, one saw, and a whole lot of strength. It’s the same event as the men’s – just with tighter teamwork, cleaner rhythm, and equally fierce competition.
A man in a "Squamish Days" T-shirt competes in a loggers sports event, quickly running across a floating log in a water-filled arena, as spectators watch in the background.

Competitors race across the log deck hauling a heavy steel choker, set the hook, and sprint back. Part footwork, part brute strength, and over almost before you’ve settled in.

Same course. Same gear. Same challenge. Women race across the log deck with a heavy steel choker, nail the hook-up, and race back for the win. Spoiler: it’s just as fast (sometimes faster) than the men’s.
A woman wearing a "Squamish Days" t-shirt is participating in an axe-throwing competition, captured mid-throw with the axe in the air. A crowd of spectators is blurred in the background.

Don’t let the grace fool you – this event is as precise and unforgiving as its male counterpart. It takes perfect technique and nerves of steel to consistently hit the mark under pressure.
A woman wearing ear protection and sunglasses uses a chainsaw to cut through a large log outdoors, while another woman in a green tank top watches in the background. Sawdust flies from the cut.
Using identical event-supplied saws, competitors are judged purely on skill, not machinery. Fast, loud, and packed with tension. Top prize for this event is a show-stopping $350.

Standing on the log, axe in hand, and swinging with total commitment – this event is a balance of aggression and control. It’s raw strength with razor-sharp form.
